• Accolades came late in the career of American singer Etta James, a career which spanned 50 years. The news of her death must surely have stirred nostalgic memories for those old enough to remember the start of her career in the 50s and 60s.There were many superb jazz and blues singers at that time but Etta was supreme. This was the dynamic singer with a voice of raw power, or tender heart-breaking emotion. An R&B singer, who could cross over to blues, jazz, gospel or rock and roll, without any loss of integrity, a singer who has inspired so many of a new generation of great singers. Her signature song was of course "At Last" and even those who claim not to know the music of Etta James will have heard it and hummed along to it. This track alone would make this album a great buy, but there's also "I'd Rather Go Blind", the raucous "Leave Your Hat On" "Tell Mama", in fact there are 3 CDs to listen to over and over again.
