Overcome by Alexandra Burke

  • Label: Syco
  • Released: 19 October 2009
  • Ten months after she won the X Factor, Alexandra Burke releases her debut album, Overcome. Unlike past winners, who have been rushed into the studio to churn out an album full of song covers and release them within a matter of weeks, Alexandra and her management team have paid meticulous attention to detail, to put together a collection of mainly upbeat tracks that bring out the singers style and strong personality. The album also features collaborations and the work of a number of high quality producers and artists including Roc Nation, Flo Rida, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Red One.

If songs Hallelujah, which scored a Christmas number one and became the biggest selling single of 2008 and the recent single Bad Boys, which has also picked up the most single sales so far in 2009, are anything to go by then the X Factor winner is in line to break a few more music sale records!

R&B with a splash of motown and a big spoonful of soul. Alex's album is very versatile, every single track is a potential number one. Her vocals are powerful and amazing, she is a fantastic artist who has smashed all expectations with this great album.

Winning the X factor does not always mean success but Alexandra Burke is one of the few stars to not only bring out a successful first album but show promising signs of a bright future beyond the UK.

I think this is an outstanding debut album from an X factor winner exceeding people's expectations. Listening to the album is very enjoyable and unpredictable, something Leona's debut lacked at times. You don't become bored by the time you get to track three like with Spirit, as it provides the listener with more get up and go songs.

She pulls off a strong, confident and very sexy vocals as perfectly as she does angelic and melodic. It has a great mix of genres including pop, dance, soul and rnb ... so something for everyone.

This album has definitely got everything you would expect and more! Alexandra has proven with this album she is not another diva releasing ballad after ballad ... . Although there are three ballads on this album, they are all very powerful and worthy of chart success. However, the upbeat tracks such as 'Bad Boys' and 'Broken Heels' are ones to look out for and are by far my favourite.

I saw her perform 'Bad Boys' over Christmas and this definitely influenced me buying her album ... and she looked amazing. Without a doubt this is an album worth buying which can be enjoyed over and over again. Happy listening!
