Everybody Hurts storms to the top of the singles chart

The single released to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, 'Everybody Hurts', has leaped to the number one spot in the UK singles chart. Since it was released on 7th February, the hit has sold almost half a million copies, making it the fastest selling charity single of the 21st century.

Meanwhile 'Fireflies' by Owl City falls one place to number two, Timbaland's 'If We Ever Meet Again', featuring Katy Perry, hangs on to third spot, and Empire State of Mind Part II by American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys climbs to number four.

The highest new entry this week, at number nine, came from the cast of Glee, with their version of Beyonce's 'Halo'. The stars of the hit TV show also take the fifth spot in the singles chart with 'Don't Stop Believin'.
