Dizzee Rascal and Lily Allen lead the way for the Ivors

Rapper Dizzee Rascal and singer-songwriter Lily Allen have each picked up two nominations for the Ivor Novello Awards. Paolo Nutini, Girls Aloud, La Roux and James Morrison are also in the running.

Lily's 'The Fear' will go head to head with Patch William's 'The Last Bus' and Nick Hemmings 'Save It For Someone Who Cares', in the category for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. She'll also battle it for the PRS For Music Most Performed Work award, against 'Broken Strings' by James Morrison and 'The Promise' performed by Girls Aloud.

Meanwhile Dizzee is up for Best Contemporary Song with 'Bonkers' and as well receiving a mention in the Album Award for Tongue 'n' Cheek.

A number of 'Gift of Academy Awards' will be presented on the evening, these include honours for Lifetime Achievement, Songwriter of the Year and The Ivors Classical Music Award.

Named after the Welsh entertainer Ivor Novello, the awards aim to recognise the incredible talents in British song writing and composing and will be presented by BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors). The prestigious awards event takes place on Thursday 20th May at the Grosvenor House in London.
