Foals tipped for 5 NME awards
The list of nominations for the 2011 Shockwaves NME awards is set to make an impressive event on February 23rd, when the bands eagerly anticipate the glory and publicity that accompanies the winning announcements. Foals, the indie band from Oxford surely must come away with a prize having been nominated in no less than five categories. Two of the band members, Yannis and Edward, quit their English degree's at Oxford University to sign with Transgressive Records, and following the NME nominations, should have more confidence that they did indeed make the correct decision. Foals debut album Antidotes achieved position 3 in the UK album charts. Total Life Forever climbed to 8th place following its release in the spring of 2010, and is said to be heavily influenced by Yannis Phillipakis interest in futurology, a branch of historical enquiry attempting to determine an understanding of what is likely to change, remain the same, and what will be new.
The 2011 NME awards have already declared Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters the winner of the Godlike Genius award ahead of the band headlining at the NME's Big Gig, and playing at the award ceremony.
Voting is underway on the NME website in all of the categories. Follow the link to cast your votes in the following categories. Winners are announced at the award ceremony on February 23rd at the O2 Brixton Academy in London.
