  • Imelda May - Love Tattoo

    Steve Hewitt - 9/23/2008

    4 Stars

I first saw Imelda perform at a Jazz Club in Cheltenham over 6 years ago and she had a spell on the audience from the minute she began to sing. She was then singing with Blue Harlem and know as Imelda Clabby (still got the signed CD case). This lady has gone from strength to strength. Although from Dublin she is without doubt the brightest female singer to immerge from the UK scene for many a year.
This album does not let down, with the ability to turn her hand from subtlety to belting it out with "Johnny Got a Boom Boom" she does not let down.

I've been a fan for years and after this, I still am.

  • Breaking Benjamin - Phobia (W/Dvd)

    Oliver Murray - 9/14/2008

    4 Stars

Breaking Benjamin just keep getting better & better. This album is much like the past two albums they haven't really changed at all, which is a good thing .This album & their past two are definately 5 stars. The title 'phobia' reflects Ben's phobia of flying whcth gives purpose to track 1 intro & track 13 outro. 'The diary of Jane' &' breath ' are clearly the best songs from the CD but all of the songs are brilliant. The live DVD Breaking Benjamin live at stabler arena the homecoming I just can't stop watching it. Its brilliant, it has all their singles: polyamours, so cold, sooner or later, the diary of Jane & breath all of their songs are catchy & I can sing them all day .Breaking Benjamin are one of my favorite bands and they will be one of yours too. I certainly recommend you buy this, its brilliant.

  • Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action

    Ronnie Carroll - 9/12/2008

    4 Stars

The Flamin' Groovies hit paydirt with their 1976 return to the public eye.Simply.... an absolute classic masterpiece (thanks Felt). The 1960's garage rock veterans return at the dawning of punk with a Beatles enthused power pop extravaganza. From the adrenalized title track onwards the Groovies blast all pretenders into the ether with a glorius harmony strewn journey that really should never end....Teenage Confidential,Sometimes,...Yes,it's true....Just gorgeous!!
Underrated does'nt do this album justice....CRIMINALLY IGNORED just about comes close...PLEASE BUY!!!!

  • MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

    Toby B - 9/5/2008

A very good début album. Sounds like a mix of David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac and Rolling Stones. Bought this on the back of the highlights of their Glastonbury gig, was not disappointed.
Best song is the single Electric Eel, but the others are of high quality.

  • Three Days Grace - One-X (Enh)

    Oliver Murray - 8/19/2008

    4 Stars

This album is unchanged in style from Three Days Graces first CD (which is good) this album is about feeling lonely because your surrounded by others who don't know or understand you:
Its All Over: is about being on the edge & your falling of its a pretty straight forward song.
Pain: the second single from this album is about being sick of feeling numb & rather feel something than nothing.
Animal I Have Become: the first single from this CD is about having a darker side that you can't control & its also about asking for help.
Never Too Late: the third single from this CD is about not giving up & not giving up on life when its at its worst.
On My Own: is about well being alone.
Riot: the forth single from this album is about feeling stepped on & about getting up & standing strong (lets start a riot).
Get Out Alive: is about getting away before you start burning on the inside.
Let It Die: is about not caring anymore.
Over & Over: is about bad relationships & getting dragged down.
Time of Dying: is about being strong when it feels like its over or your gonna die (i will not die).
Gone Forever: is about things coming clear that its better now your gone (i feel so much better now that your gone forever).
One-X: is about not being alone your not the only one going through this (we are the ones we get knocked down we get back up & stand above the crowd).
5/5 for every song on hear one of the best Cd's i have ever listened to probably my second favorite CD ever I love this no bad points at all its well worth buying.

  • Billy Fury - The 40th Anniversary Anthology

This is the ultimate cd from the greatest rock and roll singer this country has ever produced,if he was still alive he would still be massive on 60's tours!

  • Lykke Li - Youth Novels

    Adam Mills - 8/3/2008

    4 Stars

Just an incredible album. Every song is very catchy, and makes you tap your foot along to all 45 minutes of it. She is lyrically-stunning, with everything written with the heart. It may not be for everyone, but if you like Robyn, and Madonna, this is definitely for you. Definitely a future classic.

  • The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

    Rebecca Holz - 7/23/2008

    4 Stars

This is by far one of the Beatles' best early albums. Every one of the melodies is catchy, and after hearing any one of them for the first time, you'll be humming along to it in your head for days after.

I particulary love the romantic ballads on this album. 'And I love Her' is hauntingly beautiful -such simple lyrics, but evocative: love song every girl would love to hear from her beloved!

'If I Fell' is also another great track -very melodic, with beautiful close harmonies; Lennon could write soppy ones too! I love the fact that it's about a man who would quite like to ditch his girlfriend for a new love, but needs to be sure she'd be worth it!

If you don't like ballads, but something with a bit more punch, then there's something for you too. The title track isn't famous for nothing. 'I Should Have Known Better' is also a great song -great key changes; one you will love to sing along to.

Harrison's 'i only want to Dance with You' shows he has as much talent as Lennon and McCartney (well I think so), and there is of course the obligatory Ringo track ('I wanna Be Your Man'), simple but fun.

This is a corker of an album. You will love it.

  • G-Unit - T.O.S. (Terminate On Sight)

    Ben Simpson - 7/22/2008

Terminate on sight started with a big buzz and a good single to go with the hype that was so rapidly building up amongst the G-Unit fans. When July 1st rolled around though, I was surprised at the lack of imagination used by the once so dominant G-Unit. The single "I Like the Way She Do It" was one of two tracks I personally found entertaining (the other being "Close to Me") because they rap about women, and wanting/needing them, which, the majority of the male fans can relate to. But the continuous mention of how they would kill you in the rest of the tracks, just - quite frankly - bored me. The songs lack a real melody, and Tony Yayo's voice irritates me (not sure about anyone else) but maybe if he had better lyrics that lived upto Lloyd Banks' maybe it wouldn't be so bad; but he's a huge weakness in the group in my opinion, it just doesn't live up to "Beg For Mercy", simple as that.

  • Fairport Convention - Rare Broadcasts: +DVD

    Simon Chaplin - 7/13/2008

    1 Stars

The music is pure Fairport and is recording of their 1990 concert in Birmingham.

Unfortunately the dvd included is also of the same concert & NOT the concert of Cropredy 2001 as stated on the packaging.

You can, therefore, totally ignore the track listing for the dvd because it is incorrect.

For the dvd track listing see the listing for the CD it is exactly the same!

The blurb also states that the dvd is 90 minutes long when it is only 50!

There must be a law against this thing and if I can find an address for the record company I shall be writing to them for an explanation!

Having said that Fairport were on great form in this concert, the whole package, though, leaves a nasty taste in the mouth and a feeling of being utterly and totally ripped off!

Avoid at all costs, there are far better Fairport goodies out there!

  • Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times

    Matthew Duszynski - 7/11/2008

    4 Stars

The Kings third album 'Because of the times' follows on from the success of their 'tricky' second album and has become what is popularly regarded as their best album yet!

The album is very different from their first two offerings, having done away with the short and sweet, high tempo riff fuled tracks of 'Youth and Young Manhood' and 'Aha Shake Heartbreak', it is certainly a display of them maturing as a band. Amazing vocals and perfect production. 10/10
