Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry
The single 'Killing In The Name' by Rage Against The Machine has battled fierce competition to take the Christmas number one spot. The single sold over half a million downloads, after a Facebook campaign was set up to stop another X Factor winner's song getting to Christmas number one.
X Factor winner Joe McElderry took second place in the charts with his single 'The Climb', which sold 50,000 copies less than Rage Against The Machine.
Simon Cowell is said to be "gutted" for Joe after all his hard work, but at the same time the sales for Joe's single 'The Climb' were as high as any other previous X Factor winners song.
Elsewhere in the chart Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' fell two places to number three, Peter Kay's 'Animated All Star Band' took the fourth spot and a new entry by 3OH!3, with the single 'Starstrukk' (featuring Katy Perry) went in at number 5.
